Last Gatecon Planned

gateconGateWorld has reported that Gatecon 2010 will be fan-run convention’s last.

“Gatecon has had an incredible run, and the fans, actors, and studios have been amazingly supportive of us,” Richard Pasco, one of Gatecon’s owners, said in a press release, “but we have decided to go out on a high note after our tenth convention,”

Gatecon has been holding events in Vancouver and London for a decade now, predating Creation Entertainment’s acquisition of the “official” Stargate convention license from MGM, wrote Darren Sumner in the GateWorld post.

Both financial and personal reasons are cited for the organizers’ decision to end the series of conventions next year.

Here are a few details about the final event:

When:
July 8 to 11, 2010

Where:
Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, Canada.

Who:
27 guests have already been announced (primarily from Stargate, but also a few other science fiction favorites) and it is hope that more will be booked over the next several months.

Headliners include:

  • Beau Bridges: “Hank Landry” from Stargate SG-1
  • Lou Diamond Phillips: “Colonel Telford” from Stargate Universe
  • Corin Nemec: “Jonas Quinn” from Stargate SG-1
  • Cliff Simon: “Baal” from Stargate SG-1
  • Teryl Rothery: “Janet Fraiser” from Stargate SG-1
