Beware the Alamo

Fantastic Fest 3 is playing now through Sept. 27 at the Alamo South in Austin, Texas. This film festival features about 60 science fiction, fantasy and horror movies, along with 50 filmmaker guests.

“If you talk to most filmmakers and hardcore film geeks, the movies that made them love movies were the genre films they saw as a kid,” Fantastic Fest co-founder Harry Knowles told The Austin American-Statesman. “So this is an opportunity to see what a freaky, weird ghost story from Thailand looks like. We have a Pakistani horror film this year. Like, what the hell’s that going to be? That’s the excitement of it.”

Guests at this year’s festival include:

  • George Romero presenting Diary of the Dead
  • Adam Green presenting Spiral with star Joel David Moore
  • Joe Lynch presenting Wrong Turn 2
  • Uwe Boll and star Zack Ward presenting Postal
  • Maurice Devereaux presenting End of the Line

As The Genre Traveler, Carma Spence loves to view the world through Genre-Coloured glasses. In other words, she sees the world through a lens of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, where trash cans can be Daleks in disguise and neighborhood forests can harbor faeries and sprites. Magic realism is real! Or at least you can choose to see the world that way to add to the fun and awe of life.
