WOW: Worldcon Overwhelms Wonderfully

By Carma Spence

Just got back from the 64th Annual World Science Fiction Convention last night and I’m desperately trying to catch up on all the e-mail that came over the past week, so this will be a short post.

In summary, my first Worldcon has won me over to Worldcons. Next year’s is in Yokohama, Japan, so I won’t be able to make it. But, Denver was voted as the site for 2008 and I’ve never been to Denver ….

Anyway, I had a blast and I’ll share with you some of what I learned and did and saw over the next couple of weeks.

For those of you who weren’t able to make it – Harlan Ellison announced that this would be his last convention. The audience let out a disappointed “Ahhhh.”

Alas, I won’t have any party stories to tell, though. I’m painfully shy and came alone. So, I didn’t have the courage (nor the energy since my body kept waking me up at 8am ET!) to check them out. I heard the Masquerade was a blast.

Anyway, that’s it for now.

Oh! If you have any questions about Worldcon, post them in the comments and I’ll try to answer them, if I can. Also, I’ll have photos within a week, and I’ll share those, too.
