TekWar Lives Again … in Graphic Novels

By Carma Spence
cast
William Shatner (Walter H. Bascom), Greg Evigan(Jake Cardigan) and Torri Higginson (Beth Kittridge) from TekWar.

William Shatner’s futuristic world of TekWar is coming back to life as a graphic novel, produced by Bluewater Productions.

TekWar started off as a series of science fiction novels officially authored by William Shatner and co-written by uncredited science-fiction author Ron Goulart. The novels gave rise to a comic book series, video game and later TV movies and a series, both of the latter featuring Shatner and starring Greg Evigan as the lead character, Jake Cardigan.

Although the press release I received claimed that TekWar Chronicles: Plague of Ghosts, the graphic novel that contains the first four issues of Bluewater Productions’ series of William Shatner’s TekWar novels is currently available at several outlets including Amazon, I couldn’t find it there. But I did find a piece of it: William Shatner Presents: Tek War Volume 1.

The graphic novel is loosely based on the original 1989 novel which centers on a disgraced former 22nd century police officer mysteriously released from prison for a crime he is certain he did not commit. Finding himself lost in a world that has changed since his incarceration, Jake Cardigan tries to put his life back together only to be lured back into the dark world of a digital drug called Tek.

“The book is not only for people who enjoyed the TekWar novels and TV series, said Bluewater veteran scribe Scott Davis. “Whether you call it an adaptation, a reboot or a re-imagination, what readers will find is enough of the source material to make it very recognizable, and enough new turns and twists to keep everyone guessing.”

The book is illustrated by Erich Owen, who also illustrated the graphic novels Mail Order Ninja and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
