Looking for a Con?

By Carma Spence

Ever since I launched this website, I’ve wanted to create a searchable database of genre travel events, venues and more.

Today, I’ve found a website that offers something similar. It is a database of conventions, which would make up the bulk of what I have in mind.

So, until I can find the right resources to pull my dream genre travel database together, scificonlist.info just might to the trick.

You can search the database keyword, state, region and type. Types include anime, comic, fantasy, gaming, genre, horror, other and sci-fi.

Just as an aside, the website includes an interesting blog. One of the posts linked to this website, where you’ll find a new episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation written in Seussian verse. It is a hoot! Here’re my favorite two samples:

Geordi: There’s sabotage among the wires
And that’s what started all the fires.

Riker: We have a saboteur? Oh, no!
We need to go! We need to go!

Troi: We must seek out the traitor spy
And lock him up and ask him why?

Worf: Ask him why? How sentimental.
I say give him problems dental.

and

Worf: The saboteur is in the brig.
He’s very strong and very big.
I had my phaser set on stun –
A zzzip! A zzzap! Another one!
He would not budge, he would not fall,
He would not stun, no, not at all!
He changed into a stranger form
All soft and purple, round and warm.

Picard: Did you see this, Mr. Worf?
Did you see this creature morph?

Worf: I did and then I beat him fairly.
Hit him on the jaw — quite squarely.

Now I’ll go clear the tears of laughter from my eyes
And go eat some sweet potato fries! ;-)
