10 Minute Commercial?

Tire maker Pirelli has produced a cool 10-minute horror film called “The Call.” Starring John Malkovich and Naomi Campbell, it is about a priest called in to exorcize a possessed car.

Now, I’m sure the purpose of this little movie, which is quite beautiful to watch although the ending is just corny and weird, is to create a buzz about Pirelli tires and hopefully make sales.

And, from what I’ve seen on the web, they have been somewhat successful with the former. However, the buzz seems to be more along the lines of why spend so much money on this stupid commercial.

Regardless of how you feel about the purpose of this mini-film, I think you might enjoy watching it. The imagery is lush and gothic. Malkovich is wonderful (but is he ever not?). You can view it here: www.pirellifilm.com/thefilm/home.jhtml?backSite=true&lang=eng. This site also has screen savers, desktop images, a photogallery, and, would you believe it, both a teaser and a trailer for “The Call.”

Now, the big question is: Does this film make you want to go out and buy Pirelli tires? For me, the answer is: Not so much. What a waste.
