NOTE: This website is currently on hiatus. I not sure for how long. Probably until sometime in 2009. I'm re-organizing how the information will be delivered, trying to catch up on some back work, and looking for a better way to make this site your go-to resource for science fiction, fantasy and horror travel information.

    Genre Author’s Travel Picks

Sci Fi Weekly reported something I just had to share.

Horror author Neil Gaiman and his daughter, Madeleine, visited the set of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army in Budapest last month. Madeleine posted some pics (with captions) of her on the set in Gaiman's blog. Check them out, they're kinda cute.

Budapest, because of its unique architecture and because filming there is inexpensive, is a favored filming location. Several genre films and TV shows have had scenes shot there, including:
    • the 2002 TV series Dinotopia,

    • the 2006 TV series Robin Hood,

    • the 1990 TV movie Daughter of Darkness,

    • the 2002 TV movies Dracula,

    • 1991's Dracula, Live from Transylvania starring George Hamilton,

    • Eragon,

    • next year's The House of Terror,

    • the 1998 Whoopi Goldberg film A Knight in Camelot,

    • Mortal Kombat (1995),

    • both Underworld and its sequel, Underworld: Revolution,
    and more.

Keeping and "Eye" on the Surf

      | del.icio.us | Digg it | ma.gnolia | reddit | Spurl | StumbleUpon | Yahoo MyWeb |

To promote Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Fox put up a replica of the Surfer on the London Eye, according to Variety.

Do any of my British readers have any photos they'd like to share? I'd love to post them for the rest of the readers to see, if you do. Send me an email at editor(at)thegenretraveler.com. You'll get full credit and a link back to your site, if you have one.

        Mike Sosnowski at Comic-Con

        | del.icio.us | Digg it | ma.gnolia | reddit | Spurl | StumbleUpon | Yahoo MyWeb |
I met Mike at Haunt X in February. He's a really nice (although somewhat shy) and very talented artist. I found his work compelling and am working on an interview with him for the October issue of The Genre Traveler.

Anyway, I just found out that he'll be at Comic-Con in San Diego next month. If you're going, stop by his booth (#5515) and tell him The Genre Traveler sent you.

Documentary To Be Shot at Florida Supercon

          | del.icio.us | Digg it | ma.gnolia | reddit | Spurl | StumbleUpon | Yahoo MyWeb |

Michael Uslan, producers of such genre fare as Swamp Thing (1982), several Batman movies, and Constantine, will be shooting a documentary on the history of Comic Books at the Florida Supercon next weekend.

Chip Conkrite (Walter Conkrite's son) will be making his directorial debut with this project. According to Supercon oragnizers, "plans call for them to shoot part of the show, interview fans and interview some of the most influential creators in the history of comic books (Roy Thomas, Dick Giordano, Allen Bellman and Sheldon Moldoff)."

So, if you plan to go, you just might be in a movie!
