Celebrating Mystery, Adventure, Science Fiction and More
PulpFest is named for pulp magazines — fiction periodicals named after the cheap pulp paper on which they were printed. PulpFest 2018 will honor the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War. The convention will focus on the so-called “war pulps” of the early twentieth century and the depiction of war in popular culture. We’ll also salute the centennial of the birth of Grand Master of Science Fiction Philip José Farmer. Join PulpFest 2018 and FarmerCon 100 for panels and presentations on the celebrated author of Tarzan Alive: A Definitive Bography of Lord Greystoke, Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life, the Riverworld and World of Tiers series, and many other works.
The convention’s guest of honor will be award-winning author Joe Lansdale. The author of over forty novels and many short stories, Lansdale has also written for comics, television, film, Internet sites, and more. His novella “Bubba Ho-Tep” was adapted to film by Don Coscarelli, starring Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis. The film adaptation of his novel Cold In July was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, while the Sundance Channel has adapted his Hap & Leonard novels to television. Joe will be talking with Tony Davis on Saturday evening, July 28 and be available at select times during the convention.

Worldcon, aka the World Science Fiction Convention, is the annual international gathering of science fiction and fantasy fans, writers, artists, musicians and other creators. First held in New York City in 1939, Worldcon moves around the globe, held in a different city and organized by a different volunteer organization each year.
Worldcon has a strong emphasis on science fiction and fantasy literature, but has grown to include genre television, movies, animation, games and other popular media as well. It has truly become the world’s fair of science fiction and fantasy fandom. No other event brings together fans and creators, regardless of genre or medium, under one big tent with the face-to-face intimacy of Worldcon.
Worldcon 76 in San Jose has selected “Make the Future” as its theme. This is both a reference to the booming worldwide maker culture, which has strong roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a celebration of our belief that the choices we make together steer not only the fan community, but humanity in general, towards the brighter future we aspire to build.
Please join with us to make that future!
NOTE: The Genre Traveler will be there!

Join us for our NEXT voyage, sailing the week of 21-28 September 2018, round trip from Seattle with port calls at Astoria, San Francisco (overnight!) and Victoria, aboard Royal Caribbean Line’s amazing Explorer Of The Seas. Several great celebrity guests of honor have already confirmed with us, and several more are currently checking their schedules, including at least one Doctor “Who” has NOT sailed with us before. Be sure to check back regularly for the latest news. It’s going to be another “Fan-Tastic Voyage” that you won’t want to miss, so mark your calendar & start saving!
This will be our incredible TWENTY-FIRST voyage since we began doing them way back in 1988. And to help keep things feeling fresh & different, we’re sailing an all-new Pacific Coastal voyage, unlike anything that our group has ever sailed before. One thing that never changes over the years is the amazing degree of close, personal interaction between the celebs and the fans together as we see the sights, take the tours, enjoy the activities, craft the creative workshops, share the stimulating dinner conversations, and hop the bars, both shipboard and ashore, in a way that’s only possible in a limited size private group sharing an extended vacation together on a full sized modern cruise ship. After more than 8 years we will be back on board with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and on our biggest ship ever, the “Voyager Class” ship the Explorer Of The Seas. Many of the ship’s features are detailed in the cutaway diagram shown below. And as always, we welcome your constructive suggestions on “who” else you’d like to see, and what you’d like to do, to help make the experience even better, so feel free to drop us a line using the event info mail link below.
We will be exploring the Pan-Pacific influences of Steampunk and Neo-Victoriana as we set sail west across the vast Pacific Ocean, before continuing on toward Polynesia seeking Vulcania, the secret location of Captain Nemo’s home port. On the way, we’ll stop in Hawaii to take in some of the local festivities and music. Prepare yourselves for Tiki-punk and a myriad of south pacific shenanigans done up in steampunk style! Adventure awaits!
Hosted by very active group of local steampunks who have over a two decades of convention experience, together with the San Diego Speculative Fiction Society, Inc. – a local non-profit corporation, we know Gaslight Steampunk Expo will be an amazing weekend for all Steampunk enthusiasts everywhere!
Some highlights of our event will include:
A Friday Night Social with Live Music
Saturday Night Tiki Ball – Fancy or Steampunk Dress are highly recommended as we sway the night away to the San Diego High Society Jazz Band.
A wide variety of themed workshops, special presentations, demonstrations, panel discussions, and more!
Tea dueling and tea pot racing with the immensely popular Madam Askew & Grand Arbiter!
A wide variety of vendors to tantalize your wallet!
An amazing hospitality suite with a selection of complimentary beverages and snacks!
Our Saturday Community Fashion show: Theme to be announced next year!
A Maker Room display of a variety of local 2D and 3D creations!
And most important, lots of opportunities to meet and socialize with fellow Steampunks and Neo-Victorian enthusiasts from across the Southwest!!!

What is Anglicon? Who are you people?
Anglicon is a Seattle-area 501(c)3 organization dedicated to organizing British media conventions to raise funds for the Tacoma PBS affiliate station KBTC. (See the History of Anglicon page for information on previous conventions from 1988 through to 2017)
We are an all-volunteer organization. There are no paid staff positions and all volunteers and officers will buy convention memberships and pay for their hotel rooms just like everyone else. We are fans of Doctor Who and other British media, and want to share our passion with other like-minded fans.
