Snakes!

Indiana Jones: There’s a big snake in the plane, Jock!
Jock: Oh, that’s just my pet snake Reggie.
Indiana Jones: I hate snakes, Jock! I hate ’em!
Jock: C’mon, show a little backbone, will ya?

Snakes have been the stars of multitudes of thriller and horror flicks, such as Rattlers, Anaconda, The Lair of the White Worm, Spasms, Sssssss!, Stanley, King Cobra, Jaws of Satan, and this summer’s Snakes on a Plane, just to name a few. What is it about the legless lizards that makes them such a great character for a horror flick?

Well, you can find out by visiting the Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Camp Verde, Ariz. The park is featuring a “Giant Snake Show” this summer and promise that it “is not only visual, but for many, it’s hands on.”

Regular shows will be every Thursday and Saturday at 3:00pm, and the show is included in the regular price of admission. Admission is $28 for adults, $20 for children (3-12) and $26 for seniors. For more information or advanced tickets, visit www.outofafricapark.com.

In other words, she sees the world through a lens of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, where trash cans can be Daleks in disguise and neighborhood forests can harbor faeries and sprites. Magic realism is real! Or at least you can choose to see the world that way to add to the fun and awe of life.
